Libation (2 Min Read)
.
The drums sound while we all gather
deep in the woods, huddled together
In secrecy this gathering unfolds
To embrace the ancestors
The young to the old
Those gone before us
Now on the spiritual planes
Guiding, protecting
We honour their names
The priests and the priestesses
Gather some water
We call on their names
Of each son and each daughter
This all takes place
Within the midnight hours
We ask for protection
For the Almighty’s powers
We remember the Earth
So that seedlings will grow
The rivers and seas
And the wind breeze that blows
Remembering all things
In this great Universe
Mama Africa – we decree
One must always immerse
Libation and its significance in African cosmologies is explored in our Home Study Course
